Artist Alley FAQ

How do I register?
Please use our website, http://www.manganext.org/artist-alley, to submit an application with information on what you’re planning to sell. This will be reviewed by the Artist Alley staff, and once you’re accepted you will be sent a link to pay for your table. Please do NOT share this link with others; anyone who attempts to bypass the application will be automatically rejected, and their table purchase will be refunded.

How much does it cost to register? Does that include convention registration?
$50.00 includes (1) one 3-day membership to the convention and (1) one artist alley table

When your application is accepted you will receive an e-mail with the links to purchase your table and your membership to the convention. Please make sure your e-mail service is set to allow e-mails from artistalley@manganext.org so that our responses to you arrive properly.

What size are the MangaNEXT Artists’ Alley tables? Can I hang things behind them?
Most of the Artists’ Alley tables are 6’ x 2.5’, However due to the new venue, some tables might be wider or longer. You will be informed closer to the con which size table you have. Some have wall space behind them; others are free-standing. The hotel does NOT allow for items to be hung on the wall.

Do Artists’ Alley tables have access to electrical outlets?
Electricity requests are accepted but we cannot guarantee access to an outlet. Since Artists’ Alley offers electricity as a convenience and does not charge for it, our access is limited.

What can I sell at my table?
Our artists have brought a surprising variety of items in the past—paintings, prints, traditional media, sculptures, cosplay items, stuffed animals, and more. Our primary concern is that your items are not in conflict with anything being sold in the dealers room. Please do not bring anything you did not make—you are not allowed to sell commercially produced toys, or resell imported items from Japan.
As regards published items such as art books or doujinshi, we ask that you not bring anything that has been commercially published. Items that have been self-published using a print-on-demand service, where you have paid to have them made up, are generally accepted.
If you are uncertain about something you would like to sell, or would like more specific clarifications, please note it on your application. In addition you can contact us at artistalley@manganext.org with these questions.

Can I sell food?
No food can be sold at Artists’ Alley tables.

If I want a second table at the convention can I buy one then?
If there are tables left after the deadline is over, the Artist Alley Coordinator will contact artist who have already purchased their membership and table to see if they would like to get another. If it turns out that we have unsold tables or no-shows in the Alley we may be able to accommodate some requests for an additional table, but you should not rely on that.

I have friends in the Artists’ Alley—can my table be next to theirs?
Group seating requests are accepted but must be made well in advance of the show. Please note that if you ask to be seated near other artists, we will be much less likely to accommodate other special requests such as electricity.

Will artists have time to set up their tables before the convention opens?
Artists will be allowed into the Alley before we open to the public in order to set up their tables.

Will we have time to break down tables at night, or can they be left as-is?
We request that all artists pack up and leave the Artists’ Alley area as soon as possible once we close for the evening. Although we do close off the room once everyone leaves, MangaNEXT is not liable for any thefts or damages that occur, so anything you choose to leave overnight is at your own risk. We highly recommend that valuable items be removed after we close.

If I am not coming for the whole weekend can I still get a table?
Tables are sold on a weekend basis, not per day. If you are only attending for one day, we request that you not take an Artists’ Alley table- we don’t want empty tables in the room.

I and several friends are planning to share a table, is this all right?
While we don’t regulate the number of people per table, be advised that each table only has two chairs with it, and you may not take chairs from other tables- after all, those people need to sit, too! If you think you have too many people to sit comfortably at one table, please consider buying a second table.

Also, if someone other than the registered owner of the table will be using it while you’re at con events, please mention it to the staff and introduce them. We will remove anyone sitting at a table that they don’t seem to be associated with.
